Minneapolis’s Premier Open Mic, Story Club mixes the spontaneity of an open mic with the experience of live theater. We are a live forum where writers & performers can display their first-person storytelling prowess, fiction or nonfiction, memorized or read from the page.We give you a mic and 8 minutes. You tell us a story.
The Rule Keepers
Mimi Nguyen is the producer and host of Story Club Minneapolis. She was once labeled The Spirit of State Fair and has an obsession with deep fried cheese curds. She and Story Club go way back, all the way back to Chicago of 2009 when Story Club founder Dana Norris spotted her in a crowd of dazed and confused twenty-somethings.

Dominic Cocchiarella is a co-producer and web developer for Story Club Minneapolis. He can speak English and 5 programming languages, if anyone cares. (We don't) He writes fiction and designs video games. Ask him about driverless cars and grab a Snickers. You're going to be there a while.

Jamie Amy Ann is the Artistic Director for Story Club. You can thank her for all the style around here. She's also a local filmmaker and playwright. She's never worn high heels in her life and she has an unusual obsession with Settlers of Catan.

Open Mic
We have at least three open mic slots at each show (more if time allows). Open Mic participants sign up before the show and are chosen via raffle live during the show. Each performer has 8 minutes to do their thing on stage. Once the timer goes off, the story is over. We recommend telling first-person stories. The best stories quickly tell us where the story is taking place, who it involves, and what's at stake. Story Club loves having new storytellers on stage. We encourage everyone to sign up and show off what they've got!
Featured Performances
Featured performances are curated exclusively for each show by the Story Club team. Featured Performers provide drafts of their stories, and work with our producers to refine their tales. Want to be a featured performer? We're always looking for intriguing, first-person stories to bring on stage. Email us your story today.
